GENERAL
Clients will be informed of the applicable payment terms on their invoice.
For all products and spare parts, full payment is required before manufacturing begins or any orders are placed. No production will commence, and no spare parts will be ordered until the full amount has been received.
For services, labour, and installation work, a 70% deposit must be paid before any work begins, with the remaining 30% payable on the day of completion. A payment receipt will be issued once the funds have cleared in our bank account.
We accept all major debit and credit cards, but our preferred payment methods are EFT (electronic funds transfer), direct deposit, or online YOCO payments into our bank account.
For YOCO payments, clients can pay using their credit or debit cards. If you choose this option, we will provide a secure payment link. Please note that a 4% transaction fee will be added to the invoice total. If you opt for payment terms, each installment will incur a separate transaction fee. Clients may choose to pay in full to avoid multiple transaction fees.
Cash payments are accepted only by special arrangement, but EFT is preferred. We do not accept cheques, money market payments, or e-wallet transactions.
No refunds or exchanges will be permitted for any custom-ordered parts, accessories, or made-to-order products, including but not limited to items with special sizes, materials, finishes, or designs.
Refunds will not be granted for late deliveries. While we strive to meet all delivery timelines, occasional delays may occur. We are not liable for damages or losses that occur during shipping, and we strongly recommend purchasing additional insurance for fragile or high-value items. If a shipment is damaged or lost and was not insured, refunds cannot be processed. However, we will do our best to assist the client in replacing or repairing the item at their own cost.
If any items are returned for any reason, the client will be responsible for all transport charges, unless Lourens Wurz Projects is clearly at fault.
Refunds may be issued for products that are out of stock or require local or international ordering due to high sales volumes. Delays on international orders may occur, and we will communicate these as best as possible.
Refunds for services rendered will only be granted at management’s sole discretion and cannot be demanded. We are committed to delivering the highest standard of service and will make every effort to meet client expectations.
Delays in the manufacturing of custom items may occur due to factors such as load shedding, stock shortages, or high order volumes. Custom-ordered items remain non-refundable under all circumstances.
The timeline for project completion depends on the timely acceptance of quotes, payment processing, and clearance of funds. Any delay in these aspects may impact the agreed deadline. Clients should ensure timely payment to avoid disruptions in the production schedule.
Lourens Wurz Projects reserves the right to refund a client either in full or minus costs already incurred, should the installation site or service conditions fail to meet our standards or if materials used are deemed unsafe or substandard, posing a risk to the client or property.
These policies are in place to protect both the client and Lourens Wurz Projects.
All products sold carry a warranty subject to the specific supplier or manufacturer’s terms and conditions. Clients may request detailed warranty information for any product or service.
Lourens Wurz Projects and its staff cannot be held liable for any damages to property or persons. However, we will assist and advise to the best of our ability to resolve any issues related to our services.
Workmanship & Service Warranties
- Installation Workmanship: All installation work is covered by a 1-year warranty. We adhere to local and international safety and efficiency standards.
- Waterproofing Work: Waterproofing carries a 3-month (one season) warranty. Clients may choose to hire their own professional waterproofing contractor. We strongly recommend performing waterproofing twice a year, before winter and summer. Leaks resulting from lack of maintenance, damaged or poorly designed roofs, or incorrect guttering systems will void the waterproofing warranty.
- Custom-Made Products: These carry the same warranty as similar standard products unless otherwise stated. However, custom-made items cannot be returned or refunded.
- Second-Hand Items: Used products, such as flues, braais, fireplaces, or internal parts, are sold in good condition but do not carry a warranty for themselves or any surrounding products or workmanship.
- Braai & Fireplace Servicing: The warranty on servicing is covered by the paint/material manufacturer. While we ensure materials are applied correctly for the best results, very old, heavily rusted, or damaged braais and fireplaces cannot be restored to "as new" condition. Servicing is considered maintenance and should be performed annually.
Warranty & Guarantee Exclusions
The following conditions will void all warranties and guarantees, including but not limited to:
- Invoices not paid in full.
- Misuse, abuse, negligence, or improper use of the product.
- Incorrect installation that does not comply with local and international standards or manufacturer guidelines.
- General wear and tear over time.
- Exposure to sea air, salt, or moisture corrosion—mild steel is not warrantied in coastal areas unless galvanized or powder-coated.
- Damage caused by chemicals, liquids, powders, or gases in the surrounding environment.
- Waterproofing failures that lead to product corrosion.
- Failure to maintain or care for the product properly.
- Use of the product in an unintended manner.
- Unauthorized alterations or repairs made without written consent.
- Incorrect part orders by the client—if a client provides an incorrect part number, size, or specification, the warranty will not apply.
- Defective, poor-quality, or improperly designed flue systems, chimneys, or cowls that prevent proper fireplace/braai function.
- Damage occurring during storage, shipping, transport, warehousing, transit, on-site handling, or installation.
- Glass components are not covered under any warranty unless proven to be defective.
- Gas and electrical connections that were not completed by a certified and competent professional.
Lourens Wurz Projects reserves the right to determine the validity of any warranty claims.
Collections from suppliers on behalf of clients for fireplaces, braais, or parts do not include free delivery. Clients may request a shipping or delivery quote, and all related costs are payable by the client unless otherwise stated. We will make every effort to keep clients informed about the status of their product and spare parts shipments.
Lourens Wurz Projects is not liable for any damages, breakages, losses, or other issues that occur during transport or shipping. If you are concerned about potential damage, we strongly recommend purchasing additional insurance for fragile or high-value items. Any insurance costs are the client’s responsibility.
All costs related to returns or exchanges, including transport fees, are the client’s responsibility, unless otherwise agreed upon.
Certain locations, such as remote areas, farms, townships, and other outlying regions, may incur additional shipping charges, which will be payable by the client.
Deliveries are conducted Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 16:00. Clients must ensure that someone is available to receive the delivery and that the items are inspected upon arrival. If a second delivery attempt is required, additional charges may apply, as imposed by the courier company.
Clients may also arrange their own courier, transport service, or personal collection at their own risk and cost.
The manufacturing of standard replacement parts, accessories, flue pipes, cowls, braais, and fireplaces typically takes 10 to 14 working days. We take the utmost care and precision in crafting these items. In the event of unforeseen delays, manufacturing may take up to 21 working days, and we will keep clients updated on lead times and completion schedules.
Custom or special-order items follow the same standard manufacturing timeline. However, in rare cases, due to the complexity of customization, production may take up to 21 working days.
As per our payment terms, no item will be manufactured without full payment or a deposit, as agreed upon.
For special part orders requiring importation, we will provide an estimated delivery timeframe. However, actual delivery is subject to import regulations, port customs clearance, and other potential delays beyond our control.
Custom-ordered items, where the client specifies size, material, finish, or additional features, are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged. If the client provides incorrect specifications, we may assist in returning, altering, or modifying the item where possible. All related costs, including transport and rework fees, will be the client’s responsibility.
We do not have a physical showroom; however, all our products can be viewed on our website, social media pages, or WhatsApp catalogue. If a specific item is not listed, we are happy to source the necessary information or technical specifications for you upon request.
BRAAI
Choosing the right braai size depends on several factors, including the number of people you usually cook for, available space, fuel type, and cooking preferences.
Here’s a guide to help you decide:
1. Consider the Number of People
1–4 people → Medium braai
5–10 people → Large braai
2. Available Space
If you have a small patio or balcony, a compact or portable braai is best.
If you have a large backyard, you can go for a built-in or larger freestanding braai.
3. Fuel Type
Charcoal/Wood Braai: Traditional, gives a smoky flavour, but takes longer to heat up.
Gas Braai: Quick and easy to use, with precise temperature control.
Hybrid Braai: Allows both gas and charcoal for flexibility.
4. Cooking Style & Features
If you enjoy slow-cooked meat, look for a braai with a lid.
If you like multiple cooking zones, get one with an adjustable grid height or multiple burners.
Need extra storage? Choose a braai with side tables or shelves.
5. Portability vs. Fixed Braai
Portable Braai: Good for camping and smaller spaces.
Built-in Braai: Permanent feature for a home entertainment area.
Freestanding Braai: Offers flexibility while still being substantial.

Installing a braai is not always as straightforward as it may seem. We strive to ensure that every installation meets the highest standards. We use top-quality materials and follow the best installation methods as specified by the manufacturer and Lourens Wurz Projects.
Braai Removal Options
If you need an existing braai removed, we offer several methods, including:
- Plasma cutting
- Cutting torch
- Angle grinder
- Cutting into the existing brickwork to extract the unit
Each removal method has its own pros and cons—feel free to ask us for guidance on the best option for your setup.
Installation Requirements
- The braai unit requires at least 20mm clearance inside the cavity or as specified by the manufacturer. This ensures proper insulation and prevents mortar corrosion.
- Every braai has a recommended flue size, which is crucial for effective smoke extraction. A properly designed chimney/flue system improves airflow, reduces wood consumption, and enhances heat radiation.
- Factors such as flue length, bends, dampers, leaks, and cowls all impact the efficiency of smoke ventilation.
Potential Challenges
During installation or removal, we may encounter hidden issues such as:
- Poorly designed chimneys
- Structural faults or defects
- Fire hazards
- Waterproofing problems
These issues are often only visible after the existing unit is removed. If such problems arise, we will provide an additional quote for the necessary corrective work to maintain safety and quality standards.
Additional Services
We can also quote for:
- Brickwork rebuilding
- Plastering
- Tiling or cladding
You are welcome to supply your own tiles or cladding or use your own contractor if preferred.
We welcome the opportunity to supply you with any custom made to order items. In fact, we pride ourselves as being one of the few companies to offer more custom made products than standard manufactured products.
Whatever the size or specification, we will try our best to make it up for you! Custom made carries the same attention to detail and high quality manufacturing procedures than any other standard products.
At Lourens Wurz Projects, we strive to provide the highest quality service when installing your braai. While we handle many aspects of the installation, there are a few things we do not cover:
Electrical Work
We do not perform any electrical work, as this is both illegal and unsafe. If electrical modifications are required, we recommend hiring a certified electrician.
Rubble Removal
Rubble removal is not automatically included in our installation service. However, we can arrange removal at an additional cost.
Plastering, Tiling, Painting & Cladding
These services are not included in the standard installation fee. You are welcome to arrange your own contractor, or we can assist in sourcing professionals for these tasks.
Delivery of Fireplaces & Braais
Delivery is detailed separately on your quote and installation agreement. Please note that any damages occurring during delivery are not our responsibility. We recommend having the supplier handle delivery, as they are best equipped to transport and offload the unit safely.
Special Equipment for Installation
For installations requiring special equipment, such as:
- Scaffolding for high placements
- Rubble skips for large projects
We can provide a separate quote to ensure safe and efficient installation while minimizing potential damage to your property.
If you have any questions or require additional services, feel free to reach out to us!
Yes, you are welcome to arrange your own installation. However, we strongly recommend using a professional installer. Improper installation can affect the warranty of your product.
Most suppliers have specific installation requirements that must be met for warranties and guarantees to remain valid. If you choose to install the unit yourself, please ensure you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid any issues.
For the best results and peace of mind, we always suggest professional installation. Let us know if you need assistance as we can charge a consulting fee.
Yes, we offer an installation-only service for braais purchased elsewhere.
However, we require a site visit to assess the installation requirements. This allows us to ensure proper installation and determine whether we can provide a guarantee on our workmanship.
Additional work, such as modifications to the existing structure, chimney adjustments, or insulation requirements, will be discussed during the site visit.
At Lourens Wurz Projects, we take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and completing your project to the best possible standards.
If you're unsure about what to expect during the process, please don't hesitate to ask as many questions as needed—we believe clear communication helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures a smooth experience for both the client and the contractor.
Service & Repairs
- In some cases, older units (especially those that haven’t been maintained for years) may not be repairable to their original condition.
- Servicing is intended as a preventative maintenance measure to improve safety and prolong the lifespan of an appliance, but it may not restore it to a like-new state.
- While we can service or repair your unit, ongoing maintenance by the client is essential to keep it functioning safely and effectively.
Materials & Client-Supplied Products
- Any materials or products purchased or supplied by the client must meet local and international standards.
- Lourens Wurz Projects cannot be held responsible for failures due to poor-quality or non-compliant materials.
Manufacturer-Specified Installations
- If a client requests installation according to a manufacturer’s guidelines but the design proves to be faulty or unsafe, the responsibility falls on the manufacturer.
- While we will always strive to complete work to the highest standards, any installation issues caused by manufacturer defects or incorrect specifications cannot be covered under our guarantee.
We are committed to providing the best possible service and ensuring transparency throughout the process. If you have any concerns or special requests, feel free to discuss them with us!

At Lourens Wurz Projects, we provide expert servicing to extend the life of your braai and ensure its safe operation.
FIREPLACES
Choosing the right size fireplace is essential for both comfort and efficiency. Here’s a simple guide to help you determine the correct heat output (in kilowatts) for your space:
STEP 1: Calculate Your Room Volume (m³)
Measure the width, length, and height of the room. Multiply these three dimensions together to get the room’s total volume in cubic meters.
STEP 2: Apply the Insulation Factor
Once you have your room volume, multiply it by the relevant insulation factor:
- Poorly insulated room: Multiply by 0.06
- Well insulated room: Multiply by 0.035
This will give you the minimum heat output (in kilowatts) required for your fireplace.
Important Considerations
- Well-insulated homes: Most homes in South Africa are well-insulated, so the lower factor (0.035) is often more appropriate.
- Choosing the right output:
- Too large: A fireplace that is too powerful for the room will generate excessive heat, making the room uncomfortable and potentially causing issues like soot/creosote buildup in the chimney and flue.
- Too small: A fireplace with insufficient heat output won’t adequately warm the room, causing you to over-fire the unit, which can lead to damage and safety risks.
Cast Iron Stoves
Cast iron stoves are crafted from molten iron poured into molds, making them one of the oldest types of closed combustion fireplaces. With a long history, they offer a traditional aesthetic and design. As technology progressed, welding allowed for the creation of steel stoves, offering another option for homeowners. Here’s how cast iron and steel stoves compare:
Design
- Cast Iron Stoves: These stoves have joints sealed with caulk, bolts, and reinforced cement and gaskets to strengthen the design. Over time, the joints may wear and require maintenance.
- Steel Stoves: Joints in steel stoves are welded shut, making them more durable in the long run. Steel stoves also often feature double-wall construction, allowing them to be placed closer to walls. Cast iron stoves, in contrast, need to be kept a bit further from walls. This makes steel stoves ideal for built-in installations, while cast iron is better for free-standing units.
Heating Performance
- Cast Iron Stoves: These stoves take longer to heat up and cool down, but they retain heat for a longer time. If you want a stove that keeps your home warm throughout the night, cast iron is a great option.
- Steel Stoves: Steel stoves heat up and cool down faster, making them perfect for quick heating. However, they don’t retain heat as long as cast iron stoves. If you’re looking for a solution that warms up quickly and cools down quickly, steel might be the better choice.
Appearance
- Cast Iron Stoves: Cast iron fireplaces are often considered more visually appealing, with a wide range of designs that complement various décor styles. Many homeowners opt for cast iron because of its traditional, classic look.
- Steel Stoves: Steel fireplaces are typically more modern and less versatile in terms of design options. While there are some stylish steel models, they may not have the same visual impact as cast iron stoves. If your fireplace will be a focal point in your home’s design, cast iron might be the preferred choice. For a more functional fireplace, steel could be ideal.
Cost and Maintenance
- Cast Iron Stoves: Cast iron units tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved in making them. They may require more maintenance over time to maintain their seals and joints.
- Steel Stoves: Steel stoves are generally more affordable and require less upkeep since they have welded joints.
Which One to Choose?
- For Long-Lasting Heat: If you need a stove that will maintain warmth overnight, cast iron is the better choice.
- For Quick Heat: If you prefer a stove that heats up fast and cools quickly, go for steel.
- For Traditional Aesthetic: If visual appeal and a classic design are important, cast iron stoves are a great option.
- For Built-In Installations: Steel stoves are better suited for built-in designs and can be placed closer to walls.
While cast iron stoves might require more maintenance and be more expensive, their traditional charm and long-lasting heat retention make them a popular choice for homeowners. Steel stoves, on the other hand, are quicker to heat, more affordable, and require less maintenance—perfect for those looking for a functional, modern solution.
Imported units: Take approx. 7 working days to be prepared / pulled from the warehouse
Made-to-order: All orders take 10-14 working days to manufacture.
